TURN OFF YOUR TV: Upcoming Music Events in Pagosa Springs
Cynda Green | 7/14/11
Last week I wrote about the Acoustic Duets Benefit Concert on Wednesday, July 20 at 7-9 pm.

In the interim, I received a phone call from radio show producer Holly Heart at KWUF.  Holly has worked at KWUF since October, and, like me, is a music enthusiast who believes that our musicians are Pagosa’s best kept secret — that shouldn’t be a secret at all!

Holly saw Acoustic Duets announced on the Chamber of Commerce Events Calendar, and thought it sounded so cool she asked us into the KWUF studio for a little jam session with the musicians who will be performing in the concert.  We recorded yesterday, Wednesday.  I spoke a bit about the concert, but the fun part began when the musicians came in and played a sample of their music, (sample songs other than what they will perform at the Acoustic Duets concert.)

Ten of the twelve musicians who will be in Acoustic Duets showed up.  The studio is small, so only one duo at a time recorded.  Mark Brown, our comedic Acoustic Duets emcee, lurked the hallways and sat in a bit to offer his take on things, (or so I was told.)

As producer of Acoustic Duets, I had the privilege of sitting in on all the recording sessions.  I am not exaggerating when I say that I got goose bumps listening to these incredible musicians perform live.  I can’t even imagine how good they will sound in The Breaks Black Box Theatre at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts when they play next Wednesday.

KWUF 106.3 FM will air our Acoustic Duets promo jam tomorrow, Friday, from 6-7 pm during their Locals Hour.  Tune in!

The musicians  — Laith Scherer and Bethany Burnett; David Richter and Jared Payne; Eli Carpenter and Jess Wilton; Bill Hudson and Greg Milioto; Carl Mori and Robbie Pepper; Dianne and Michael Killen — are naturally excited about the Acoustic Duets Benefit Concert.  They know it will be a unique experience, not only for them but for the audience as well.

More info about the theater in last week's TOYTV article.

I expect the concert to be amazing.  Goose bump amazing.

The concert is scheduled for Wednesday, July 20, 7-9 pm, at The Breaks Black Box Theatre (Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts), 2313 Eagle Drive (on Putt Hill).  Tickets are $10, and are available at 970-731-SHOW, online at the Pagosa Center website, the Chamber of Commerce, or at the door if not sold out.

I’ll see you there!

I feel Acoustic Duets is an important event not only because it is a fundraiser for the Thingamajig Theatre, but also because it showcases some of Pagosa’s numerous and talented musicians ,,, musicians  who are not marketed as an asset to our community, or as tourist attraction, but who should be.

Maybe this can be the start of emphasizing our new theater and our outstanding musicians.
