PHOTO ESSAY: Potluck Celebrates (and Roasts) Don Volger
Bill Hudson | 11/24/08
To celebrate the career of Pagosa Springs Chief of Police Don Volger, community members organized a potluck dinner at the Parish Hall last Friday.  The food was a delightful Pagosa mix of Southwestern recipes, generous trays of meat dishes, salads, and the occasional Oriental-influenced dish (my own contribution, for example!)  Following the meal, community members stepped up to the microphone and roasted the Chief — sharing stories about his police career as well as his reputation as the "Great White Hunter."  Don then delivered a speech of his own, reminding the gathered friends that he could never have accomplished what he did without the whole community's help.

As a final touch to the evening, Don and his wife Melinda were given a blessing by a local church deacon.

A good time was had by all.
