First Fridays at SHY RABBIT take place on the first Friday of every month through September, providing the perfect opportunity for visitors to casually tour the arts facility while watching SHY RABBIT Ceramic Studio Members creating work on the potter’s wheel.
SHY RABBIT Contemporary Arts is located at 333 Bastille Drive, two blocks north of US 160, off of North Pagosa Boulevard. The 4,000 square foot arts facility houses a ceramic studio and fine art gallery, two mixed-media workshops, and two large exhibition spaces.
“Paper & Clay2” continues through August 1, featuring a variety of highly original prints by three Colorado artists, along with a diverse selection of skillfully crafted functional and sculptural ceramics by eleven nationally recognized ceramic artists.
In consideration of the exemplary work produced during "Printmaking without a Press" I - III Workshops at SHY RABBIT, a select group of advanced printmakers were invited to participate in "Paper & Clay2" by SHY RABBIT instructor, D. Michael Coffee.
 The “Paper” works on display represent a commitment by these artists to the advancement of the “Reductive Ink"” printmaking process, developed by Coffee over the course of the last 20 years.
The printmakers selected for inclusion in “Paper & Clay2” are: Juanita Ainsley, Colorado; Sandy Applegate, Colorado; and Christa Laos, Colorado.
In acknowledging the role that art educators and mentors play in shaping generations of artists, an exclusive exhibition opportunity was extended to select students and alumni of Brad Schwieger, Professor of Art and Ceramics Area Chairman at Ohio University, College of Fine Arts, in Athens, Ohio.
Professor Schwieger has been teaching since 1985, and has shaped the early beginnings and professional careers of countless students during that time. The “Clay” works on display represent the achievement of eleven accomplished ceramists, and include the work of professional artists and art educators currently teaching at various universities throughout the US.
The ceramic artists selected for inclusion in “Paper & Clay2” are: Ben Ahlvers, Kansas; Ingrid Bathe, Maine; Joe Davis, Utah; Hiroe Hanazono, Pennsylvania; Mike Jabbur, New Mexico; Andréa M. Keys, Ohio; Stephanie Lanter, Kansas; Lorna Meaden, Colorado; Frank Saliana, Montana; Steven Schaeffer, Arizona; and Michelle Tobia, Wisconsin.
