Solar Power for Your Home or Business

Now is the time to seriously think about going SOLAR!

Prices on PV (photovoltaic) modules are at record low prices, and solar thermal panels are now very affordable as well.

If you utilize the Federal and State incentives the cost of a system can be reduced, and if you install a grid tied PV system there are Renewable Energy Credits (REC) available through your local electricity provider!

To find out the true solar potential that your specific site has to offer, a site analysis is recommended. There are tools of the trade that can be set up on site and used for shade analysis. Any trees, buildings, or other objects that could cast shadow are shown and recorded. The underlying diagrams are latitude specific and engineered with data for the entire year. Instant data is available to aid in the positioning of an array for optimum sunshine.

A summary report can be generated to show the amount of AC Kilo Watt hours, or BTU’s  for solar thermal, that are capable  with the amount of sunshine that is available at your site. This information is crucial for the system design. With a clear picture of any and all obstructions, the array size and brand of equipment can be easily altered to match budget, load or space requirements.

Photovoltaic panels are affected by partial shade more than other types of collectors. Shade over a portion of the panel can greatly limit power output. Partial shade from towers, poles, deciduous trees and other objects would be considered nearly the same as total shade for older panels. PV manufacturers have gradually reduced this problem. Several locations should be evaluated to find the one with the greatest collection potential.

Output will also be affected by the use of a tracker, or the number of fixed panel adjustments made during the year. The summary report can show how many hours of power the addition of a tracker could have in each month and over the course of a year.

This can aid the decision of adding more panels in a fixed array, or the use of a tracker for space or budget constraints.

Having a site analysis done by a professional solar person, will enable you to ask many questions and gain solar savvy! And your local pro is Grande’s Solar, right here in Pagosa Springs.

In addition to a site analysis, we provide all of LPEA’s requirements and applications, DORA info, Fed and State incentives, monitoring equipment options, ideas for financing and descriptions of the latest PV and solar thermal products on the market.

There is no sales pressure, only information and consultation provided. The cost is considered part of site preparation, and is eligible for the 30 percent Federal tax credit.
