Bowl For Kids' Sake Set for March 20
Special to the Post | 3/4/10
Bowl For Kids’ Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters’ only annual fundraising event for Pagosa Springs. This year's event will be held on Saturday, March 20, beginning at 9am at Sky Ute Casino's Rolling Thunder Lanes in Ignacio.

We still need 15 teams from Pagosa to fill our lanes and ensure the continued success of our mentoring agency!

This annual fundraising event offers friends, family members, businesses, churches, and others the opportunity to give a child in need a friend and mentor so that child can grow in self-confidence, social awareness, and school performance, learning to make good choices in life that help them to reach their goals.

Community members interested in this worthy cause can consider being a Team Captain.

All your team members have to do is commit to one hour of bowling fun and raising $320. At just $80 per team member, it’s that simple to make a difference! That's just asking 8 friends for $10 each to make the difference in the life of a child.

Administrative costs average about $1,000 per match to maintain each year.  All money collected for Archuleta County’s Bowl For Kids’ Sake fund-raising event supports our local agency.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program has proven to be an effective method for preventing delinquency and encouraging positive development in young people.

Children in the program are:
  • 46% Less likely than their peers to engage in illegal drug use.
  • 27% Less likely to use alcohol.
  • 52% Less likely than their peers to skip a day of school.
  • 37% Less likely to skip a class – they earned higher grades and had a more positive perception of school.
  • 33% Less likely than their peers to be physically aggressive – overall more trusting of their parents or guardians.
Participating youth felt more supported and less criticized by their peers and families, and were less likely to lie.

By agreeing to be a Team Captain, you will be helping Big Brothers Big Sisters' mission to reach out to the children of this community and help them grow into healthy, happy contributing citizens.

Your participation will be appreciated and remembered long after the lanes close! Thank you in advance for your consideration. With your help, we truly can make a BIG difference … one child at a time.

So please take up the challenge ... theTeam Captain information letter can be downloaded by clicking here.

If you are unable to bowl and would like to sponsor or make a donation, we would truly appreciate that as well!
