PET OF THE WEEK: Natasha
Kathy Steventon | 3/4/10
Gosh now, where do I start my story? First with an introduction, my name is Natasha, and I am a 3-year-old female Siamese cat. I was recently dropped off at the Pagosa Springs Humane Society because my owners told me I was “unwanted”. What??

How can a beauty like me, a beautiful, soft and silk-furred feline, with clear and brilliant blue eyes be unwanted? I’m purrfectly adorable! Well, hmmm. Let’s see now. Let’s list my positive attributes and then my negative ones, and see which list is longer...  Continued...

I’m young, female, beautiful, spayed, declawed, gentle, love humans, and love to be held and stroked. These are all positive things about me, right?? O.K., now an honest assessment of my few negative faults, we all have them don’t we? I don’t like other cats or dogs, and am afraid of small children. There. That’s it. Now you tell me which list is the longer one?

You got it! When my old owner dropped me off as ‘unwanted’ just a few weeks ago, I was in shock. What is this place? How come I can’t come home anymore? What did I do wrong? I still don’t know the answer to the last question, but I now know that I am in the cat section of the Pagosa Springs Humane Society. Me and a whole lot of other cats who I don’t know. None of these other cats, though beautiful, are as gorgeous as ME, if I do say so myself.

They tell me here that I need to explain what kind of new family I want to adopt me. That’s easy! A human family that will keep me forever is at the top of my list. A family that will keep me safely indoors too, since I don’t  have any claws and can’t protect myself. A human that is older, without young kids or other animals. Someone who needs a nice warm, purring body on their lap in the wintertime. Someone who will love me forever and for who I am, THAT is the most important quality of all.

So, are we a match, you and I? Can YOU come here to the shelter and bring me home? I sure don’t take up much room! I’m over at the Humane Society shelter on Cloman Blvd., just off Piedra Road. Give them a call, 970-731-4771 and tell them “I would like to visit Natasha from the Pagosa Daily Post article”.  I’ll be quietly purring as I wait to meet you.
