PET OF THE WEEK: Pearl
Kathy Steventon | 3/11/10
Yawwnnnn. Oh, good morning and hello “meow” there. My name is ‘Pearl’, and I am what humans call a ‘senior’ cat.  Let’s be blunt and honest here, I’m old. Not too old, but older than most of my cat friends here at the Pagosa Springs Humane Society animal shelter. Which puts me in a different class than all these young cats running around in the feline room.  Continued...

What do I mean by that you ask? Well, because I’m an older cat, my needs are small and specific. I really would adore a sunny window ledge to watch the world go by, and I eat wet cat food. Those are my needs pretty much in a nutshell. As you can see I am solidly black in my fur coat, with clear green eyes. My fur is unusually silky and soft, very nice and smooth to the touch.

Humans seem to really love that about me. I am a calm cat, very, very calm, due to my advanced years and maturity. I’ve pretty much seen it all and nothing ruffles my cat “feathers”. I used to have a great human home, but sadly, my human caretaker had some hard breaks in his life and had to take me, and my five canine brothers and sisters here. He told us, with many tears in his eye, that he could no longer look after us and feed us properly. Oh gosh, that was a very sad day for all of us.

Since then, which happened in August 2009, I’ve made the most of my world here at the shelter. Kayleigh takes really good care of me and I am just patiently waiting for some kind humans to come and adopt me. I’m not really too keen on other cats, they are too active for my tastes! I let them run around and play and keep to myself, content to watch their crazy antics.

Don’t get me wrong, when I was a young whippersnapper I played a lot too, tumbled with the best of them! Now though, as I’ve said before, my needs are small, a comfy ledge, or lap to lie on. In return I promise to purr as loud and as hard as I possibly can.

So, how about adopting me into your family? Do you have a nice sunny windowsill I can stretch out on? If you do then come on over to the shelter on Cloman Blvd., just off Piedra Road. Give them a call, 970-731-4771 and tell them “I would like to visit Pearl from the Pagosa Daily Post article”. I’ll be waiting patiently and hoping you come to take me home.
