PET OF THE WEEK: Martin
Kathy Steventon | 3/19/10
Oh sweeeeeeeeeet life, oh how sweeeeeeet it is! Hello, hello humans! My name is Martin, and I am a beautiful, mid-sized, adoptable canine between two and fours years old. I’ve just been on a long walk with the lady who is translating my story for me. What a beautiful sunny day it is here at the Pagosa Springs Humane Society animal shelter. Well, I’d better get back to my life story…

My old human owner came here to the shelter after he developed many, many human medical problems. He couldn’t take care of us anymore. “Us” you say? Oh, that’s right, I came from a great family of TEN dogs! Man! Boy did we used to have a lot of fun with each other! Those sure were happy days for all of us. So our old human said good-bye to us, one by one, and left us under the good care of the shelter people. Sigh, I miss my old human and the one-on-one contact that I used to get from him.

Right now I showed the lady today what I am capable of. First, I am very good on a leash, and I LOVE to jog alongside you. I keep pace with you, never pulling you, just in total synch with your pace and rhythm. That is a great talent of mine… Secondly I am very easy going and love affection. AND I give you tons of affection right back! I’m not aggressive in any way, and would quickly settle into a family that gives me lots of kindness and patience. I’m sometimes slightly shy, but when I do warm up, I adore you forever, I promise.

What do I look like? Well, you can see from my photo here that I have soft caramel eyes, brown and black ears, and a mostly white body with soft black/gray spots. I think I heard through the grapevine that I have Pointer blood in the family line, and some other kind of breed as well. It makes for a beautiful mix as you can see! I suppose I weigh between 50 and 60 pounds, so I am a mid-sized dog, and naturally, VERY athletic. But calm, I find the world to be a fascinating place and I spend my time between loving my humans and contemplating the universe.

So, how about adopting me into your family? My gentle nature and athletic abilities are a unique combination. Come on over to the shelter on Cloman Blvd., just off Piedra Road. Give them a call, 970-731-4771 and tell them “I would like to visit Martin from the Pagosa Daily Post article”.

I’ll be waiting patiently like I do every single day.
