Pagosa Springs Daily News: A Musical Explosion at PSHS

I’m still trying to wash the soot off my face after the explosion or local high school students ignited Friday night at the Terry Alley Auditorium at PSHS.

And I was sitting near the back.

“High School Musical” was beyond sensational — it was sung, acted, danced and played with all the precision artistry and athletic prowess of a professional production. This is not unusual with Music Boosters and PSHS productions. But I just couldn’t restrain myself from shouting from the rooftops about this one (or at least the ‘virtual’ rooftops available here in the Daily Post.) Every last one of the 53 students on stage earned their cheers. Continued...

Notable is the collaboration of of two giants of stage and musical direction, Dale Morris and Dan Burch. And it never hurts to have Venita (Dan’s wife) on the piano. This was truly a family affair.

And how about that new sound system? Thanks to the Community United Methodist Church and Music Boosters, every line uttered by anyone on stage was crystl clear. Our little mountain town is blessed with direction, talent and technology. Continued...

As I wrote following last spring’s high school concerts, Dan Burch has developed a world class band and chorus programs at the high school which are thankfully to be intact this fall — but not so his feeder program. Junior High music teacher Shawna Carosello’s jazz band, which produced some very fine graduating talent for Mr. Burch this fall, is being cut. Other students who were very excited about joining next semester have not been told about the cuts, as of my writing this.

What a loss.
