San Juan Basin Health Department is excited to announce that the Nurturing Parenting Program will begin our 16 week session during the last week of August, call for exact date and time. The Nurturing Program is an internationally recognized program that promotes nurturing family interaction by increasing family cohesion, empathy and self esteem.
Nurturing is the ability to care for and foster growth in yourself and others. We all need nurturing! All of us, parents and children included, need understanding, warmth, praise and respect. We also need limits and rules. All of these are part of nurturing. Nurturing is the foundation of the parent-child relationship. For this reason, it plays a vital part in assuring that our next generation will be healthy, responsible, happy and caring adults.
Because financial stress can also bring stress to families, we will also be sharing the “All My Money” curriculum which is a research based program designed to help us make better financial decisions and become more self sufficient.
The Nurturing Program is a 16 week series of group based sessions in which both parents and children participate and practice the same skills. This helps families get along better and establish a nurturing way of life! The parents group offers a supportive and non-judgmental environment, time to share and meet with other parents and a new self-awareness and positive tools for parenting. The children’s group provides the opportunity for socialization, creativity, structured group discussions and play, along with nurturing care. The sessions are based around a meal where parents and children join together to eat and share a family activity.
Recent graduates of the Nurturing Parenting Program have praised the program for its nurturing and nonjudgmental acceptance of all. This program is sponsored by San Juan Basin Health Department, Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation, Fatherhood Initiative and other local caring agencies.
