Enjoy the Farmers Market
Pauline Benetti | 8/20/10
Looking for an old fashioned (with a modern twist) thing to do on Saturday morning?  Try the Pagosa Farmers Market every Saturday.

"Old fashioned"?  Yes, instead of grabbing a basket and running up and down aisles filled with too much stuff, bring your own bag, stroll from booth to booth and visit with neighbors as you select the basics: bread, meat, cheese, vegetables, fruit, etc.  Enjoy the morning.

What’s the “modern twist?”   By going back to the past we are returning to a practice that helps us control our carbon foot prints.  I am told that our average bite of food travels an average of 1500 miles to get to our table.  Buy your basics at the Farmers Market and that bite travels at the most 30 or 40 miles.  Continued...

The Market runs each Saturday from 9am-1pm at the east end of the Ponderosa Lumber Company parking lot.  "Early is best" for the widest and freshest selection of organic and naturally grown vegetables along with some of the most wonderful baked goods in the Four Corners.

You will also find local folks offering their own organic meats, tamales, fine cheese, organic and all natural skin care products, and fiber products.

As if that were not enough, local musicians are on hand each Saturday to provide live music to accompany your shopping expedition.

Clearly the Pagosa Farmers Market is more than just a shopping place.  It is a community effort to provide locals and visitors with a fine selection of goods.  It is a venue for local growers to display and sell their wares.

It is a gathering place to meet friends and make new ones.

It is an important part of Pagosa "on view" to all our many visitors from as close as South Fork and Chama and as far away as California, New York and Barcelona, Spain.  Traveling folks expect to find a Farmers Market whenever they stop and Pagosa does not disappoint them.
