This workshop is the first in CHI's Contractor Training Series inviting building contractors to learn Energy Star construction methods in the field, sponsored by the Colorado Governor’s Energy Office and Colorado Housing, Inc. The workshop was led by Chad Close of Sustainable Builders and Mark Yerbic of Big Sky R-Control SIPS.
SIPS is a highly energy efficient structural system with integrated insulation which can be used for walls, roofs and floors, assembles quickly, and makes compliance with the Energy Star Thermal Bypass Checklist a breeze. Use of SIPS is also a recommended strategy for reducing thermal bridging, a new requirement of Energy Star 3.0 soon to be released in 2011.
Upcoming workshops include pre-drywall home tours in Cortez and Bayfield, as well as more SIPS Assembly opportunities in Cortez and Pagosa Springs. This training series will continue through 2011 to facilitate a community-wide transition to Energy Star 3.0.
