On Monday, January 16, the Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership (GGP) took significant action at their regular meeting to officially file for nonprofit corporation status in the State of Colorado and to finalize paperwork to form a 501c3 tax exempt organization.
Completion of such filings has always been the intent of the GGP to allow it to operate as a stand-alone entity entitled to pursue grants and tax-exempt fundraising.
Initially the Southwest Land Alliance (SLA) graciously partnered with the GGP as a fiscal sponsor allowing tax-exempt status to GGP activities. The GGP is very grateful to the SLA for such support and would like to publicly thank and recognize the SLA for their tremendous time and effort that have undoubtedly contributed to the success and evolution of the GGP.
At the January 16 meeting, Michael Whiting, SLA representative, announced that he has asked the SLA to appoint a new representative to the GGP. The GGP members thanked Michael Whiting for his contributions and said they looked forward to working with the new SLA representative.
The Board of Directors of the GGP non-profit corporation will consist of five active members from the current GGP including Ross Aragon (President), Kathy Keyes (Vice President), Sally High (Secretary), Pauline Benetti (Treasurer) and Elaine Wood. All board members happily accepted the responsibility with the intent to serve and benefit the community.
During the meeting, placement of the first dome on the leased town property was discussed. The GGP agreed it would be prudent to consider the future development of 5th Street when placing the first dome to be good stewards of the land, community and financial investments.
In addition, the GGP discussed a future fundraising event that may be coordinated with the hosting of the Colorado School of Mines geothermal research project planned for the end of May. The GGP may sponsor a “Geo Week” of activities to highlight the significant achievements and potential in the community in parallel with the research project and fundraising event.
The public is always invited and encouraged to attend the GGP meetings which are currently held bi-weekly on Wednesdays at 4pm at 703 San Juan Street, Suite 203.
The next meeting is scheduled for February 1. |
