'Celtic Nights' Coming to Durango
Indiana Reed | 1/23/12
Direct from Ireland comes a celebration of song — a new show in the tradition of theatrical events such as Drum! and RiverDance.

Celtic Nights Journey of Hope, comes to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College Wednesday, February 1, at 7pm.

Celtic Nights Journey of Hope is said to expertly weave together the lilting melodies and plaintive lyrics of the rich Celtic heritage to tell the story of a people. In this stirring tale, the audience is invited to travel along on the journey of hope, transported in time through traditional ballads and vivid choreography as the Irish immigrants struggle to find their place in a changing New World.

Featuring the finest Celtic male and female vocalists, the show illustrates not only the rich heritage of the island country, but also reminds audiences of the influence of the old music on what has become American sounds – from bluegrass and Appalachian, to country and western, to the music of the American Civil War. Many song favorites, such as “Danny Boy,” “Isle of Hope,” “Galway Bay,” and “Isle of Innisfree” are included and showcased against a thundering backdrop of expert dancing and musicianship.

In reviewing a Celtic Nights performance, The Guardian (England) published, “No wonder this unmissable two-hour spectacular has brought audiences to their feet all around the world.”
