The Archuleta County Education Center will hold its 10th Annual Luncheon Fundraiser on Leap Day, February 29.
The Education Center is where our community goes for GED and ESL training, Pueblo Community College classes and programs, after school tutoring and enrichment programs, and community education, which includes First Aid and CPR training. Video teleconferencing facilities make it possible for Pueblo Community College to deliver classes even when only one student is enrolled.
Dr. Dave Richardson watches over students carrying out a chemical synthesis in the After School Enrichment STEM Program for Jr High students. The STEM program allows community volunteers share their expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math with Jr. High students. |
Providing this wide range of educational services in our small, isolated community is expensive because the number of people who want to take a class is usually small. Yet the cost of delivering a class is the same whether there are few or many students. Before video teleconferencing was available, PCC classes were offered only when several students enrolled at the same time.
Strong community support has been an essential part of the Education Center’s funding for over 23 years. The Annual Luncheon Fundraiser is the one time each year when residents and businesses come together to support this program. Strong community support provides direct funding for the programs and projects a positive image of our community to foundations, which also support the programs.
The format of the fundraiser has been designed for busy people. Arrive at 11:45am and leave at 1:00pm. Enjoy a nice lunch, talk with friends and learn how the Education Center is serving some of the greatest educational needs of our community. Listen to students enrolled in Education Center programs describe what it means to them to have classes available in Pagosa Springs. These programs allow many students to continue working in Pagosa and go to school at the same time.
You are invited to attend the luncheon, which will be held on Leap Day, Wednesday, February 29 at the Pagosa Lodge on U.S. 160. Tickets are available for a $50 donation. Have friends or associates? Buy tickets for a table.
Tickets can be purchased at the Education Center (4th and Lewis Streets) and at the Chamber of Commerce (402 San Juan Street).
