Mr. Dennis' Errors
Norm Vance | 1/25/12
Back to the News Summaries
In response to Mr. Dennis' recent letter to the
Daily Post
regarding Nordic skiing on Reservoir Hill, there has been no discussion about a ski jump. A Nordic skiing system is for skiing, not jumping. There are other aspects of Nordic — such as target shooting with guns — that we also do not include.
I have experienced the Steamboat Springs Nordic effort at full tilt and doubt we can get the Olympic team to move here.
The good thing about Nordic skiing is that a chairlift is not required, they can ski uphill!
Reservoir Hill has the space for a small Nordic skiing trail facility. The charm is not to include all possible aspects of Nordic, but that we have basic groomed trails in town. From the time I began grooming trails on the hill people loved it. It is convenient for locals; some even go up to the cabin with a sack lunch during their noon break. Tourists ski and like it, some directly from their motel.
As tree thinning progresses we will be able to expand the trail system on the bank south of Folk Festival Meadow. This will increase the distance and improve the experience.
