RECAP: Southwest Organization for Sustainability
Special to the Post | 2/2/12
2011 was a good year for SOS, the Southwest Organization for Sustainability.

We started in January with the "Green" Business Awards in conjunction with the Chamber; with recognition going to the Alley House Grille/Farraago Market Cafe, Growing Spaces, PAWSD, Pagosa Baking Company, Pagosa Brrewing Co. an Grill, Piedra Automotive, and the Spring Resort and Spa.

We had a very successful Earth Day in April — good attendance in Town Park. We enjoyed an afternoon of local music, food and beverage (provided by Pagosa Brewing).

Farmers Market was held from July through September -—12 weeks of local veggies, natural meats and cheese, natural fiber products, local music and good food. The market was located at the east end of the Ponderosa Parking Lot.

We ended the year with our successful and fun annual fundraiser in November at Nello's with music by John Graves with a number of membership renewals.

In between events, SOS donated materials to our public library.

Our persistant gentle pressure on the County to make progress on its Recycling Program has paid off. Grand Opening for Single Stream Recycling in Archuleta County will take place on February 11 at 10am at the Pagosa Transfer Station and Recycle Center.
