GOAL Academy will host its monthly GOAL Connections event on Thursday, February 7th. GOAL Academy welcomes host Maggie Ives of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Archuleta County, and Mara Koch, Outreach and Education Coordinator, from the Archuleta County Victim Assistance Program to present on the topic of internet safety. The presentation will begin at 5:30pm. Anyone in the community interested in this topic is welcome to attend.
Internet safety is an issue of great concern to families and educators. While technology has become an integral part of our daily lives, young people often venture online into unsafe territory unbeknownst to them. Acutely aware of this, educators will take measures to eliminate unsafe internet use for students, yet parents are often unaware of the potential dangers inherent in such internet activities as surfing the web, gaming, and social networking. As a result, children often engage in online activity unsupervised and unprotected.

In addition to the presentation, throughout the day and evening, parents of GOAL Academy students will be able to meet with academic coaches to check student progress and to learn about Individual Career and Academic Planning (ICAP). Our local ICAP Specialist, Jamie Blechman, evaluates transcripts, designs student schedules, creates individualized plans of study for each student, facilitates the transition from high school to postsecondary school or work, oversees student internship opportunities, and manages the college concurrent enrollment program, which allows students to take college courses for free while in high school.
Our February 7, 2013 GOAL Connections open house hours will be from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Internet Safety Presentation will be at 5:30pm. 100 Country Center, Suite K&L
