Winterfest and Outlaw Snowdown Brought Down the House and the Snow!
Lauri Heraty | 2/11/13

Winterfest 2013 officially came to end yesterday with the culmination of the Hot Toddy for the Body Contest  followed by 11 brave souls jumping in the San Juan River and riding Davey’s Wave for Pagosa Springs’ non-profits.  Over $9000 was raised  thanks to generous donations from the community inspiring these river riders to take the plunge! The Pagosa Springs Youth Center brought in $2,186 thanks to Patricia Shoffner’s elegant float through the rapids along with Conner Bjork.  The Pagosa Pregnancy Center was represented by Kevin Muirhead and his Penguin Friend “Pengy”. They floated for $2,102 .  Many thanks to those generous folks who donated and the silly Pagosan’s who dared brave the frigid waters!

Winterfest and Outlaw Snowdown 2013 were perfect.  True to both their names, it was a “Winterfest that brought the Snow Down and down and down and down!”

Outlaw Snowdown fulfilled its mission by packing the heated tent with dancing, jamming, snow-boot stompin’ fun.   With bellies full from Thursday night’s Chilly Bowl, Winterfest launched into a weekend of fun, fun, fun!!  The Snowshoe Romp brought out athletes and weekenders alike, the Nordic Races were equally full of competitors and those who just wanted to share laughs with friends. And for those purely seeking fun – there was snow sculpting and silly sled races.

Great job Mary Jo Colihan, Patricia Shoffner, Jan Santopietro - all from the Pagosa Springs Chamber of Commerce who organized many of the events as well as the Community Center for co-sponsoring the Chilly Bowl, Stacy Booone from Step Outdoors organizing the Snowshoe Romp, the Pagosa Nordic Club for handling the Nordic Races and of course Melissa Buckley for her stellar event producing skills bringing us the Outlaw Snowdown!

Of course none of this could be brought from board room planning ideas to fruition without the help of Pagosa Springs awesome community of volunteers!!!  I wish it was possible to print a list of the many, many folks who pitched in to make this Pagosa Spring’s premier Winterfest event thus far!  With so many organizations responsible for their individual events, a centralized list of those volunteers is not available, but to those of you who endeared cold feet and hands with smiles on your faces – THANK YOU!

Enjoy the pictures below compliments of Joanne Irons, Linda Muirhead and Janeah Weaver from the Pagosa Pregnancy Center and Stacy Boone from Step Outdoors.  If you have other pictures you would like to share with the Pagosa Daily Post, send them to and I will be sure to post them throughout the week.
