Pagosa Springs' newest theater group, the Springs Theatre Company, has planned a series of three light dinner theater shows during the coming summer months — billing the series as the "Summer Starlight Series." The three-show season will run from June 13 through August 16, and will feature two melodramas and a "radio variety hour" re-enactment.
First in the series is the charming melodrama, “Dora, the Beautiful Dishwasher, or The Heroine Who Cleaned Up”, directed by Betty Schwicker. This turn of the century style, one act play, has roles for four women and three men.
In July, STC has the unique opportunity of helping celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Fred Harman Art Museum. The show will be set as a 1940’s radio variety hour. Several ‘acts’ will surround the highlight of the evening, a recreation of a Red Ryder radio play episode. The radio play portion of the show requires five men, playing various parts each, and one or two women. The rest of the cast will be flexible depending on the nature of the variety acts. Some players may participate in both areas.
Concluding the series in August is a second melodrama, “Foiled by an Innocent Maid, or the Curse of the Iron Horse”. Michael DeWinter will be directing this four woman, two man cast. Set amid a family tragedy, the story twists and turns its way to an ‘unexpected’ ending.
Pre-Show entertainment and table assignments will start at 5:30pm, with dinner served at 7:00pm. Ticket are $28 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under. Tickets are available online and at Plaid Pony (970) 731-5262. Advanced purchase required.
