Tonight, Thursday, April 10 from 4-7pm, Plaza Liquor in downtown Pagosa Springs is offering a free tasting of six organic wines. Four of these are certified sulfite-free.
Featured wines will include Bonterra Chardonnay, Our Daily Red, Nuevomundo Cabernet/Malbec from Chile, and three wines from Orleans Hill: Lodi Syrah, Viognier & Merlot.
Plaza Liquor owner Shawn Lacey notes that this is the first time the Plaza event will be featuring organic wines. The shop has been offering occasional wine tastings for over two years now.
"We were very excited to find the Orleans Hill organic wines," Lacey says. "People are becoming more aware of sulphites in recent years, and Orleans Hill has developed a special technique for removing the sulphites, using a special yeast added at the end of the fermentation process. We are eager to see what people think of these sulphite-free wines, as well as the other two organic wines."
Live music will be provided by pianist John Graves, and simple hors d'oeuvres will be served.
Since acquiring Plaza Liquor in 2005, Shawn and Brighid Lacey have constantly worked on broadening their wine selection, looking for the best wines and the best values. Recently, they acquired two fine French Bordeaux's rated 92 and 93 points which are still reasonably priced despite the weak dollar in Europe.
So stop by this afternoon and evening to sample some organics and browse the great selection of wines available.
