The Colorado State Court Administrator’s Office has awarded Archuleta County a Court Security Grant in the amount of $46,525.00. These funds will be used to hire a full time Court Services Officer to perform court security duties.

The Archuleta County Local Court Security Team was formed to obtain the information necessary to apply for the grant. The objective of this grant is to provide the means to secure and protect the staff of the Combined Courts and Archuleta County Government while in the physical confines of the Archuleta County Court House. It is also to provide the means to secure and protect the general public who participate in and obtain services from the Archuleta County Court House.

The Court Services Officer will provide a visible presence of security whose sole purpose is the enforcement of the safety of the staff and general public. This new position, which was approved by the Board of County Commissioners in a Special Session on April 29th, will be reporting to Sheriff Gonzalez.

The expected timeframe for hiring the Court Services Officer is early June.
