On Sunday, May 11, the Pagosah Unitarian Universalist Fellowship service will consider A Tale of Two Mother’s Days, presented by John Graves. He'll discuss the two widely disparate visions of the day set aside to honor America's motherhood, along with their historical and cultural consequences.
A pair of oddly similar activist mothers, from different generations (history's Julia Ward Howe and Porterville's Hildreth Hope Graves) will also figure in this consideration of the two diverse concepts and how they relate to the tenets of Unitarian Universalism.
Graves retired in Pagosa Springs in 1996, after careers as a musician; program executive at NBC, MGM-TV, and the South Australian Film Corporation; TV and film producer; and ten years as a professor of Mass Communication at the University of Central Missouri.
This being Mother’s Day, the focus of the children’s program will certainly be on mothers. In keeping with this month’s theme of our relationship to nature, we’ll talk about how different creatures are mothered and create a collage of moms and their babies. Bring a photo of you and your mom for your collage.
The service begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Pagosah Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall, Unit B-15, Greenbriar Plaza. Turn east on Greenbrier Drive off of North Pagosa by the Fire Station, then left into the back parking lot and look for the big sign. All are welcome. |
