Archuleta County Commissioner candidate John Ranson released a public letter yesterday, Thursday, May 8, announcing his resignation from the Citizen's Financial Task Force. Ranson's letter indicated that his desire to openly communicate with the public — as District 1 Commissioner candidate — has been constrained somewhat by his role on the Task Force. Rather than "permit my candidacy to impact the important work of the Task Force," Ranson says, he has chosen to resign from that committee.
The Citizens' Financial Task Force was assembled almost a year ago, as a volunteer group of local citizens with financial and business expertise, to inspect the financial records of Archuleta County following the departure of County Finance Director Bob Burchett last spring. The Task Force has, since then, been advising the Board of County Commissioners on specific actions to help resolve the County's financial crisis. Ranson was one the Task Force's original members.
Ranson is using the petition process to participate in the Republican Party primary election.
Here is the text of Ranson's announcement.
"John Ranson Candidate for County Commissioner District 1 May 8, 2008
Today, I announce my resignation from the Citizens’ Financial Task Force.
Archuleta County, with the aide of the Citizens’ Financial Task Force, has taken the first steps towards recovery from the financial crisis revealed in the spring of 2007. I find it increasingly difficult to fulfill my obligation as a member of the Task Force and at the same time actively campaign for the office of County Commissioner. My role as a candidate for County Commissioner demands that I be able to discuss all issues with the public in an open and direct manner. However, as a member of the Task Force I feel some constraints in my ability to candidly communicate to the public my concerns relating to specific financial issues.
I cannot permit my candidacy to impact the important work of the Task Force in their role as advisors and counselors to the BoCC and County Administration; therefore, I must step aside.
My tenure with the Citizens’ Financial Task Force these past eleven months has been personally rewarding. The Task Force has been a crucial advisor to Archuleta County providing financial guidance and expertise in a time of crisis. It has been my privilege and honor to serve with Task Force members Larry Allen, Al Bledsoe, J.R. Ford, Marion Francis, Rich Lindblad, Les Mundall and Bob Nordmann. I have developed friendships that will last a lifetime.
I look forward to the opportunity to serve the citizens of Archuleta County once again in the future." |
