Backpacker magazine’s “Day Hiker’s Handbook” by Michael Lanza claims to answer all your questions whether you are new to the trail or an expert in the making.  “The Hiking Engine: A hiker’s guide to the care of maintenance of feet and legs” by Stuart Plotkin provides guidance in picking out socks and shoes, performing stretches and learning how to keep your feet and legs healthy while hiking.  “Mountains of the Mind” by Robert Macfarlane describes how the mystery of the world’s highest places has come to grip the Western imagination.
