Herrick retirement
Vita Herrick, Pagosa Administrative Support Assistant, retired this spring after 34 years with the San Juan National Forest. Vita started as a trainee in 1974, and although she worked in several positions, her duty station was always Pagosa. Over the years, she worked for seven district rangers and two acting district rangers.

Vita was the core of the Pagosa Ranger District. When asked what she liked about the job, Vita says she liked everything. That sums up her treatment of every person, her amazing attitude, and her approach to every task.

Vita’s retirement celebration was attended by over 200 people. (Even Elvis was in the house!)

Retirement finds her well. She is volunteering at her church, spending time with friends and family, has planted a garden and is thinking about going fishing. There will be no standing still for Vita. “Every day is exciting for me, but then, every day always was,” Vita says.
